BAUER X:60

£ 130

At the top of the popular Vapor series of hockey sticks by Bauer, sits the X:60 model. Offering a wide range of curve and lie options, as well as customization through MyBauer, most players should easily find a curve and lie option that works for them. The Vapor X:60 is available in either a grip ("Stick'um") or clear shaft finish.

High-end materials and high tech design are featured (and expected that this price point) in the X:60. Blade construction starts with a foam core (Aero foam II) built around "pure shot technology" construction using a tape weave carbon fiber fabric wrap (Textreme - Oxeon of Sweden) and results in a very responsive, very stiff blade. The double taper shaft neck offers a reasonably low, and according to Bauer, an adaptive flex profile, intended to enhance loading for different shot types. Shaft profile is dual concave with slightly rounded corners and offer excellent grip and control. Fit and finish are superb and the stick has a simple strong appearance featuring a large logo that partially wraps around the shaft sides.

In the hands the stick feels perfectly balanced with a center of gravity just below the measured center. The blade is stiff and light, offering hard shots, and quick response but seems a bit too stiff for optimal puck feel. Stick handling is fast and accurate, the thin blade feels lightening quick, but again, with a slightly rigid feel. The Stick'um coating offers excellent shaft friction with the perfect amount of tack.

Testing results for the X:60 where very high, ranking near the top of our objective and subjective test. The X:60 ranked high for balance, feel and stick handling scores. The X:60 recorded the second best results for shot velocity for all sticks tested for both wrist and slap shots. Subjective scores for shot feel and accuracy were excellent. Durability seems similar to or better than other high-end composites and the stick enjoys high popularity with prep, collegiate, and amateur players. Pro use is fair, but the Bauer Supreme series is more popular.

Bottom Line: An excellent, do-it-all elite level hockey stick with with quick response, hard shots and a very stiff blade. 94 points.
